Visited the BIAL airport this morning (Sunday) to pick up a family member. A few observations

Distance: 35 km from M.G.Road (46 km from Bannerghatta Road)
Time taken: 1hr 30 min (7:00 - 8:30 am) and return 1hr 45 min (10:15 am - 12:00 noon) for 46 km
Road condition: Very good. No problems whatsoever. Media reports to the contrary are old or inaccurate

On week-days and with traffic, one may need more time to beat the traffic in the city and towards the airport on NH7.

Route from Bannerghatta Road
Go past Dairy Circle and hit Hosur road. Continue on Hosur Road, keep going through Museum Road, St Mark's road, cross M.G.Road and take left on Cubbon Road and continue on Raj Bhavan Road - go past the HAL exhibit and before Race Course road turn towards Mehkri Circle direction. There is a sort of U-turn to hit Mekhri Circle but enough directions and signs stating 'International Airport'. Continue on and this will hit NH 7 and keep going. There are several indicators showing 'International Airport'. Noticed a few gas stations on the way. At a certain stage (about 7 km before the airport; 28 km from M.G.Road), there will be a large flyover on the left side - enough indicators for this and you could see the traffic going to the left (at least during day time). The road leads all the way to the airport. Parking comes to the left (open parking slot)

Airport Terminal
Large building on the left beyond the parking area. Departure gates come first and Arrival towards the end of the building. The airport terminal building is quite large and enough space outside. Quite modern looking. Toilets are in a cream colored block opposite the terminal building (further ahead of the parking area) - about 200 m across.

Entry tickets to arrival lounge: Rs 80
Parking Charge: Rs 50 for 0-4 hours. Long term parking also available

Other facilities (just outside the terminal)
ATM for Axis Bank, SBI, HDFC Bank, Foreign Exchange Counter, Post Office, Hotel Service Counters (most of the leading ones), Inquiry counters and Airline counters. Lots of luggage trolleys at the parking lot itself.

Transportation
Volvo buses with separate stands and time tables, BMTC bus stand, Taxi stand (Rs 15/km). The area is just outside the terminal and convenient. Once one gets comfortable with the schedule of buses, it may be convenient.

Other shops

Subway, Baskin Robbins, Gangotrees, Fast food (Coffee/Tea Rs 15; Upma, Dosa, etc. Rs 25; Sandwiches Rs 45), Odyssey Book Shop, etc.

Overall, the access seems straightforward with good roads (at the moment). Given the distance, one will need at least 4 hours to and fro at a minimum. Not sure how the lighting is during evening/night hours. The facilities seem good and space is plentiful, particularly the parking lot.
