This is a good deal for the Ranbaxy promoters but is sad to see them sell out. Now you rarely see this with the Ambani's, Mittal's, Tatas, Birlas, etc. There is the difference between wanting to be at top of the business world and cashing in and giving up that quest. Guess this needs ambition, vision and drive to reach the top - always. Ranbaxy have done well and can't be faulted but still...
The last time I remember something similar was when Parle's Ramesh Chauhan sold off Thums-Up and other brands, including bottling plants, to Coke about 20 or so years ago (for 300 crores I think).
